Launch of an Electronic Referral System at the National Paediatric Craniofacial Centre

The team at the National Paediatric Craniofacial Centre are delighted to a launch a new Electronic Referral System. We were very grateful to receive a 2022 Seed Funding Innovation Grant from the Department of Research and Innovation with thanks to Children’s Health Foundation which allowed us to change from a paper-based to an electronic referral system.

Our interactive referral asks specific clinical questions; outlines feature and displays images of head shapes associated with craniosynostosis acting as a visual guide to referring doctors. Craniosynostosis is the most common condition we see, whereby the cranial sutures between the skull bones fuse early and become stuck together resulting in an abnormal head shape.

The referral is sent electronically generating a link to enable parents or referrers to upload photographs of the child’s head shape, which are then linked to the referral form through a unique identifying code.
